Raised here and educated at USL and Southern University Law Center, Judge Colbert has spent his life serving the people and families of this community.
SERVICE BEFORE THE BENCH
Judge Colbert served in the 256th Mechanized Infantry Brigade, the U.S. Air Force, and the Army JAG Corps, carrying the discipline and responsibility of military service into every role that followed.
EXPERIENCE ACROSS THE JUSTICE SYSTEM
He has served as an Assistant Attorney General, felony prosecutor, public defender, civil attorney, private counsel, and as the current Division D District Judge.
COMMITMENT BEYOND THE COURTHOUSE
As a father, foster parent, volunteer, member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., 100 Black Men, Prince Hall Masons, and advocate for veterans, children, and families, Judge Colbert has continued to give back to Acadiana.
He believes in accountability, rehabilitation, and stronger communities, including specialty courts that address addiction, mental health, family struggles, and the needs of veterans.
Judge Colbert brings proven legal experience, military discipline, and deep community roots to Division D.
